Airbus supersonic jet goes from London to New York in an hour!

If you thought Concorde was the only way to fly, think again. Airbus has just had a patent granted for a supersonic jet that flies twice as fast as Concorde, and could make it from London to New York in just one hour.

The jet would travel at Mach 4.5, which is four-and-a-half times the speed of sound. That would give it a speed of around 2,700mph. Let’s hope it’s a steady flight.

Not only would it travel super quick, it would also look amazing during take-off and landing. It would take off vertically using rockets, then be propelled to its destination using wing-mounted ramjets.

Good luck getting on board though. According to Airbus, it would be for “business” travel and VIP passengers who require transcontinental return journeys within one day”.

There’s also no guarantee it will ever come to pass. Plenty of patents never do, after all. Still, we can dream.
